Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Minuca rapax are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Minuca rapax, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Minuca rapax, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

Minuca rapax (Smith, 1870)

We would like to recommend interested readers the detailed breeding report by Hans-Georg Rupp from the Koralle issue 79, February/March 2013, page 50 to 54. Hans-Georg Rupp describes there very nicely how to achieve a successful breeding of these interesting fiddler crabs.

A very important hint, for all who want to acquire fiddler crabs, which are available in the German trade:
The aquarium must be designed in such a way that the urgently needed land part is hermetically separated from the water part, so that the tunnels built by the crabs are not caused to collapse by the water!

A thick layer of sand is also necessary. Mangrove dwellers!
