Info

Prognathodes brasiliensis also commonly referred as the Brazilian Longsnout Butterflyfish or the Brazilian Butterfly is endemic to the tropical Southwest Atlantic widely distributed in Brazilian waters. This fish prefers slightly cooler water temperatures. It is mostly found on a depth range of 20 to 35 m.

The Brazilian Longsnout Butterflyfish is rarely imported to the trade in Europe. Prognathodes brasiliensis is a very peaceful Butterfly, not shy and easy to care for.

Unfortunately are the most of the reef fishes of the Brazilian coast and its oceanic islands have remained poorly known.

Remarks:

Butterflyfish are not recommended for reefs as they will pick at or eat a wide variety of corals, fan worms, and other invertebrates. Most Butterflyfish are known to pick at Aiptaisia, a parasitic anemone.
