Hippocampus multispinus, better known as the northern spiny seahorse, found on the continental shelf of Western Central Pacific: Western Australia to Northern Territory and southern Papua New Guinea. It is benthic on soft bottom habitats between 10 and 60 m, mostly trawled at 20-60 m.
Like other seahorses, this species presumably feeds by sucking small crustaceans and other small prey items, including planktonic zooplankton, into their mouths.
