Calyptrophora pileata is so far only known from the Hawaiiian Islands and Indonesia (exact information is missing in the description)

The described holotype had the following dimensions: 20cm height, 17cm width.
Around the Hawaiiian Islands the depth range is between 227- 244 meters, in Indonesia however between120 - 520 meters.
Similar species: Paracalyptrophora echinata Cairns, 2009.
Etymology:
The species name comes from the Latin word "pileatus" meaning "covered or clothed", an allusion to the well-developed translucent cap surrounding the operculum.
