Info

Siphonodictyon brevitubulatum is a rather pretty yellow sponge that can be found on live rock, live coral as well as coral skeletons.
This species of sponge is easy to keep in an aquarium in a reef environment and low light.
To thrive over the longer term, the sponge requires plenty of current, sufficient nutrients in the water, and good water quality.

This burrowing / boring sponge is noticeable for its tiny yellow papillae, when touched the sponge secretes mucus.

Due to its activity, Siphonodictyon brevitubulatum is categorized as a bio-eroding sponge.

Note from Prof. Dr. Christine H. L. Schönberg:
Siphonodictyon sea sponges are not suitable for aquariums because they secrete chemicals that inhibit cell growth in corals.
If such sponges do get into an aquarium, please place them far away from corals.

Synonym: Aka brevitubulata (Pang, 1973)
