Info
French Polynesia consists of the following archipelagos: The Austral Islands, Gambier Islands, Society Islands, Marquesas Islands and the Tuamotu Archipelago.
From Europe, French Polynesia is well over 15,000 kilometers away, yet over 80,000 visitors come there each year.
Therefore it is very surprising that there is only one photo of the endemic damselfish Pycnochromis fatuhivae. We would like to thank Dr. Luiz A. Rocha for the use of his photo.
Pycnochromis fatuhivae is a non-migratory, i.e. site-faithful damselfish.
Etymology: The species name "fatuhivae" was named after the presently only locality, Fatu Hiva Island, the southernmost of the Marquesas Islands.
Synonym: Chromis fatuhivae Randall, 2001
