Info

Aplysilla glacialis (Merejkowsky, 1878)

The type locality for describing Aplysilla glacialis is the White Sea. The pink sponge has rarely been found on the supporting roots of mangrove trees. It is rarely overgrown by invertebrates and algae. It has defensive substances that are produced in large quantities and across the entire sponge when disturbed by space competitors. The sponge also produces antimicrobials to inhibit the growth of certain marine bacteria.

Eaten by Felimare macfarlandi.
