Info

Rhabdamia novaluna is a small cardinalfish that can typically be observed in the ocean swimming in close pairs or in large schools.

The body of this cardinalfish is transparent pale grayish, it is silvery reflective on the head and belly, with a bluish white and blackish midlines.

Similar species: Rhabdamia gracilis (Bleeker 1856).

Etymology. The specific name "novaluna" is derived from Latin meaning "new moon", in reference to the subdermal black spot or blotch on the base of the caudal fin.
