Info

Coenobita carnescens Dana, 1851

Terrestrial hermit crabs (Coenobitidae) are adapted to life on land except for the larval stage. In tropical regions they usually live near the beach. Most species are found in the Indo-Pacific region, with only one species occurring in West Africa, one species occurring along the Atlantic coast of the Americas, and one species occurring on the Pacific coast of the Americas.

Coenobita carnescens is a terrestrial hermit found on and near beaches. It is much smaller than the other terrestrial Coenobita species. They resemble juveniles of Coenobita perlatus.
