Info
Hyattella pedunculata is a species of Hyattella characterized by a globular body supported by a short stem, first discovered and described from Ponta do Ouro, Mozambique.
The sponge has a massive, spherical body supported by a short stem.
The color of the sea sponge is reddish-pink.
The surface of the stalked sponge is smooth but appears to be grainy, its consistency is firm but compressible.
The body is full of cavernous holes.
There is currently only one indication of the water depth, which may mean that the sponge can be found at depths both above and below 40.6 meters.
Etymology
The species is named “pedunculata” after its characteristic stem, known in Latin as “pedunculus”.
