Jacksonaster depressum (L. Agassiz, 1841)
A living sand dollar is covered with fine spines and appears velvety. The skeleton of a dead sand dollar is smooth, without any spines, and the details of skeleton can be seen more clearly.
Can be found on or in soft silty sand in sheltered lagoons near reefs.
