Distribution:
Eastern Atlantic: northern coast of Iberian peninsula to South Africa, also Madeira and western Mediterranean.

Western Indian Ocean: southern Mozambique to South Africa.

Western Pacific: Japan and Australasia.

Colour:
olive green to brown above, paler below; head pores black; young silvery.
