Plaxiphora obtecta Carpenter, 1893

Plaxiphora obtecta is a species of molluscs in the family Mopaliidae. Plaxiphora obtecta is a large chiton in the family Mopaliidae, endemic to New Zealand, where it is most often found on the West Coast of the North Island.

This species is one of the largest chitons found in New Zealand.

Plaxiphora obtecta is herbivorous and feed on algae, including sponges, bryozoans and coelenterates, which they scrape off the hard substrate.
