Astrangia macrodentata bevorzugt einen felsiger, von Sedimenten bedeckter Bodengrund, sowie an Felsen mit Sand.

Die Kolonien sind normalerweise braun.

Ausgedehnte Polypen zeigen weißliche Tentakel mit grünen oder sogar gelb in ihrem Kontakt mit der Mundscheibe, die Mundscheibe ist bräunlich oder orangefarben, mit grünen Flecken und Streifen.

Aufgrund ihrer geringen Größe kann die Art leicht übersehen werden, könnte aber entlang der nordafrikanischen Küste weit verbreitet sein.

Etymologie: Der Artname "macrodentata" bedeutet "macro" für groß und "dentata" für "Zähne" bezieht sich auf die Septen in einigen Koralliten, die stark gezähnt sind.
