Pentapodus komodoensis ist nur aus den Gewässern um Komodo, Indonesien, bekannt, wo die endemische vorkommenden Tiere in kleinen Gruppen mit etwa 20 bis 30 Exemplaren über Geröll- / Steinflächen im moderaten Tiefen bis maximal 25 Metern leben.

Pentapodus komodoensis occurs in small schools, 20-30 individuals, over rubble slopes at 12-25 meters depth.
