Info

Pagurus pubescens Krøyer, 1838

Pagurus is a genus of hermit crabs in the family Paguridae. This hermit crab is omnivorous, but mostly prey on small animals and scavenge carrion.

P. pubescens has significantly more hair on its legs than the common hermit crab. The right claw is larger than the left, and three times the length of the body (carapace).

The Downy Hermit Crab is usually found on a large variety of substrates, but seems to be most frequent a bit deeper than the other hermit crabs in Norway. It is common deeper than 30 m.
