Lysmata holthuisi is a so-called "peppermint" shrimp, it lives in the rocky intertidal zone, under rocks and coral rubble at low tide, in pools under rocks.
The shrimp is considered endemic to the eastern Pacific.
Etymology: The name of the new species honors Prof. L. B. Holthuis (1921-2008), in recognition of his monumental contributions to shrimp taxonomy.
