Info
Dr. John (Jack) Randall caught a specimen of this cardinalfish, first known as Apogon aterrimus, in the waters around Easter Island in 1969.
Unfortunately, we are unable to show a photo of a live fish, and no corresponding image may exist on the Internet.
The question whether this cardinalfish species is still alive or possibly extinct must remain open.
World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) states for this species that a first description was not documented, so unfortunately we cannot report any further information about the species.
Synonym: Apogon aterrimus Günther, 1867
