Info

Chaetodon tricinctus also commonly referred as theThree-striped butterflyfish is known from the tropical waters of the Southwest Pacific around Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands.

TheThree-striped butterflyfish inhabits coral rich areas of lagoon and seaward reefs and is ususaly found in small groups. Adults and juveniles have similar colouration.

Relatively unknown to American and European aquarists because this species has only been rarely imported.

As with all of the obligate corallivore butterflyfishes, it should be left on the reef unless an expert aquarist can somehow meet its dietary needs.

Remarks:

Butterflyfish are not recommended for reefs as they will pick at or eat a wide variety of corals, fan worms, and other invertebrates. Most Butterflyfish are known to pick at Aiptaisia, a parasitic anemone.
